While firefighters were operating inside, conditions worsened and the building self-vented through the roof, prompting command to pull all crews out of the structure and switch to exterior operations, officials said.
Firefighters then battled the blaze defensively for a period of time using two tower ladders and multiple hose lines before bringing the fire under control after several hours.
