SOUTH SETAUKET, NY — The fourth annual Robert W. Greene Jr. Memorial Softball Game is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at Percy B. Raynor Memorial Park in South Setauket on Field 1.
Greene, 33, of South Setauket, died in a collision in St. James on May 14, 2022. His family has been honoring him with a softball game ever since.
Robert’s niece, Avery Greene Murphy, will sing the national anthem at 12:15 p.m. The softball game will begin at 1 p.m. Food and refreshments will be served.
“Robert’s Annual Softball Game is a memorable day surrounded by his closest family and friends who’s legacy intertwine us all,” his sister, Renée Greene Murphy, told Patch. “With immense comfort, we share his stories while enjoying one of his life long passions of being a coach and playing softball.”
Renée Greene Murphy wrote a children’s book in memory of her brother last year. She had began the process of writing “Your Heart’s Voice” in 2018, but life took over and she shelved her project. Greene Murphy resumed “Your Heart’s Voice” six months after Robert’s death. She dedicated her book to him, adding him as a main character to the story.
She will have copies of her book at the game for people to buy and or read. People can check out the award-winning “Your Heart’s Voice” here.
